I will be instructing how to set up an email account using hotmail as the main website. Hotmail is one of the many free email address websites. I will be instructing my younger sister Emily, who is 12, on setting up an account but this lesson is valuable to anyone who hasn’t used email before. Using email is important because it connects the user to many different resources other then phone, basic internet, and face by face communication.
The first email was sent by Ray Tomlinson in 1971: http://openmap.bbn.com. He had been working with his partners on a specific program database and had accidently sent an email, at the time it was called “network message”. When he first sent the message he thought it was by mistake and possibly due to the closeness of the computers side by side. So he sent the same message to his partners and they indeed received it. Since this time, using email for communication personally and professionally has grown. It has grown so much that it is now possible to receive email on cell phones, lap tops, and hand held devices.
I received my first email inbox when I was 12 years old. At the time I opened the email so I could chat with my friends on MSN. I still use the same email address that I opened 9 years ago. I have advanced my email usage with age and activity. Now that I am in college and entering the career field I use email for communicating with instructors and co-workers.
